dreamstime_xs_40998329Marionette lines can appear early in life and can often cause the face to appear sad or tired. Needless to say most people would be hapy to get rid of them for good.

There are two major ways in which these lines could be treated. One, involves the use of facial fillers and primarily relies on adding volume to the lines in order to soften their appearance. Another, involves getting rid of the tissue laxity by pulling the skin of the face upward (aka Facelift). One is relatively cheep, easy and hardly requires setting aside any time for recovery. Another is costly, more invasive, and requires taking some time off work of for healing.

So, how would you decide which one is best for you? It is actually pretty simple. There is an easy test that you can do at home in from of the mirror. Place your fingers on the side of your face and gently pull the skin upward. If the lines disappear – your best treatment is a facelift, if the lines persist – your best option is fillers.

There might be some exceptions to this rule, of course, since our faces are quite different in their structure and aesthetics, but for the most part it holds true.
