There’s nothing quite like NYC slush, and we’re not talking about the sugary frozen beverage. We’re talking about the icy sludge that forms in the streets almost immediately after it snows here in the city. It’s possibly one of the least pleasant experiences one can have. Anyone who’s lived here long enough can tell you, there are few things more terrifying than almost stepping into an abyss of ice cold garbage water. So if you don’t plan on taking a car to and from our office, we strongly advise you at least wear boots.

That being said, we couldn’t think of any other reasons why someone living in NYC shouldn’t be getting a facelift in the winter. Minus the the miniature black lagoons of sludge that haunt every street corner, every other aspect of the season is no less than ideal for undergoing any sort of facial rejuvenation treatment. When it comes to plastic surgery in the winter, two factors play pivotal roles in making this possibly the best season for a facelift: time and weather.

Excellent Time of Year for Facelift Recovery

It’s quite amazing that a facelift, which can easily make someone look 10 to 15 years younger, only takes a couple of weeks of recovery time, most of which is purely for cosmetic reasons. Most swelling and bruising tend to subside after the first week, but the symptoms and marks left behind will take a little while longer. That’s why it’s important to plan your procedure at a time when it’s convenient to take a couple weeks off from work, and what better time to hibernate away as you heal and recover than the winter months?

Furthermore, although the initial recovery period is generally brief, it takes longer for the results of a procedure to fully “settle” as your facial skin, muscles, and tissues adjust to their new positions; this can take several more months. With that in mind, you can understand why planning a facelift in the winter is rather advantageous. If you schedule yours for early November, you’ll be presentable by the December holidays. You can schedule a facelift for any time around the beginning of the new year, and you’ll be fully healed, adjusted, and ready to put your best face forward by the time summer rolls around.

Perfect Weather for Facelift Recovery

It’s perfectly normal to prefer the warm weather of spring and summer, but for those of us who greatly enjoy fashion, clothing, and accoutrements, the winter is when we shine brightest. And luckily for those who align with the latter and desire facial plastic surgery, winter is also when the sun is shining the least. Sun exposure can cause visible scarring in plastic surgery patients, despite it being entirely preventable. And how do we prevent this? By covering up of course! Sure, you can wear hats and sunscreen in the summer as preventative measures, but then you still have to deal with the sweating, which could exacerbate any discomfort and make your recovery process generally less pleasant.

You might get suspicious looks if you’re walking around NYC in the summertime wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a scarf, but in the winter you can layer up like it’s nobody’s business! Because it isn’t. Whether or not you had plastic surgery is for you and you alone to decide to divulge or keep secret for as long as you like (and facelift results are long lasting). And making that decision is easiest in the winter simply because you’re not bombarded with invitations to the beach or a barbecue or any public place where you might be more exposed than you’d like. Scarves, turtlenecks, coat collars, etc. can all be used to conceal your surgery when it’s done; you can go about your business while everyone around you is none the wiser to your recent rejuvenation procedure. If it’s so bad outside that you have to stay in anyway, it’s the perfect excuse to recover from your procedure in the privacy and comfort of your own home.  Enjoy the winter!
