The “jaw bra” is the latest beauty product trending on social media. Also called a ”face bra,” this clever contraption is worn like a face mask, going under the chin and jaw and hooking over the ears. This type of mask is meant to tighten the skin under the chin and provide a more defined and sculpted jawline. The “jaw bra” can also serve as an ideal, non-invasive alternative if you’re not ready for injectables like BOTOX or filler, or actual cosmetic surgery. Sounds too good to be true? POPSUGAR investigates.

While there are countless ”face bras” on the market, POPSUGAR’s editor tested the Wishful Chin Lift Peptide and Niacinamide Sculpting Sheet Mask. This mask is made of a woven cotton material, similar to athletic tape, and infused with skin soothing ingredients like peppermint and niacinamide. Starting with a clean, dry face, this ”face bra” is placed under the chin, pulled upwards on each side and then secured around the ears. The mask has to be worn for thirty minutes to work its magic. So, did this Wishful product live up to its claims? To our surprise, yes…… albeit temporarily.

POPSUGAR’s editor reported that while the mask was a bit uncomfortable to wear, upon removing it, she saw undeniable results. This “face bra” made her chin and jaw look slimmer, especially making the skin under the chin look visibly flatter. The texture of her skin felt softer and more hydrated as well. The only downside of these incredible results – they faded in just three hours. The “jaw bra” works by adding compression to the area under the chin, which decreases the lymphatic fluid in that part of the face. The effect of the compression can give the appearance of a more defined jawline, but it is only temporary.

Using the ”jaw bra” on occasion, such as for an event, might be harmless, but wearing it frequently can also have negative consequences. “The downside of using such devices on the regular basis could be the reduction in tone of the underlying muscles, which in turn would lead to more, not less, sagging,” Konstantin Vasyukevich, MD, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, tells POPSUGAR. He recommends procedures such as liposuction, buccal fat pad removal or a facelift as long-term options to help eliminate a double chin and achieve a more defined face and jawline.
