Seeing early signs of facial aging, but not sure what kind of procedure will give you back that youthful glow? In this YouTube video, Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich, a top NYC facial plastic surgeon, compares for us two of the most popular procedures that promise to deliver the rejuvenated look everyone is after. While both the thread lift and mini (face) lift work well for those in their 30’s and 40’s, in this video we delve deeper into the reasons why each option would work best.

What is a thread lift vs a mini facelift?

A thread lift is a surgical procedure designed to lift the sagging part of the face by placing special threads through a small, inconspicuous incision under the hairline. As the threads tighten up, the skin is elevated and the facial contour improves. In this type of “lift”, no actual skin is removed, it is just re-positioned.

A mini lift is a surgery which requires making incisions, which are well-hidden around the ears. The tissue under the skin is tightened up, the skin is lifted and the excess is removed. This helps to get rid of the sag and rejuvenate the face.

Which one is best for you? Three main differences between these procedures that will help you decide

  1. One of the main advantages of a thread lift is that it is a minimally invasive procedure, with practically no down time. While it’s possible to develop a small bruise once the threads are placed, most patients can return to work and normal activities after a couple of days. A mini lift, on the other hand, requires a longer recovery time, and most patients feel comfortable retuning to work a week or so after the procedure.
  2. The cost of the thread lift versus the mini lift is also a considerable factor. Since the mini lift is a surgery that requires the patient to go to an operating room, undergo anesthesia, etc., there will certainly be more expenses than for a thread lift.
  3. Another great distinction between the thread lift and mini lift is the longevity of each procedure. Typically the results of a thread lift can last up to 6 months, which makes it a great option if you want to look good during this relatively short period of time (for an important event, for example). However, if you are looking for a procedure that will rejuvenate your face for years rather than months, the mini lift is the better option.

Ultimately, we all want to look our best and yet still feel comfortable with the cosmetic procedures we choose to undergo. Anyone who is looking for facial rejuvenation can choose the procedure they find most suitable. The thread lift and the mini lift present us with two excellent, but very different options, so that we never have to sacrifice feeling beautiful!
