Every Recovery Is a Little Different

A Botox appointment and a facelift have almost nothing in common when it comes to healing. The overall approach at this practice, however, stays the same regardless: clear instructions, realistic expectations, and support that doesn't stop the moment the appointment ends.

Recovery Timelines, by Category

How long recovery takes depends heavily on the category of treatment, not just the specific procedure. Every procedure page on this site includes its own specific recovery timeline in more detail. As a general guide:

  • Injectables (Botox, dermal fillers): little to no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities immediately
  • Laser and light treatments (Erbium YAG, IPL, microneedling): range from virtually no downtime to about a week, depending on the specific treatment and depth
  • Facial procedures (blepharoplasty, brow lift): typically one to two weeks before returning to work and social activities
  • Facelift and neck lift: generally two to three weeks for the most visible healing, though full results continue to settle for months

General Guidelines for a Smoother Recovery

A few things help nearly every recovery go more smoothly, regardless of procedure. Arranging help for the first day or two matters more than people expect, especially after anything involving anesthesia or sedation. Following the specific instructions given after each procedure, rather than general advice found elsewhere, protects both the healing process and the final result. Sun protection, adequate rest, and avoiding strenuous activity for the recommended window all matter more than they might seem to in the moment. Detailed, procedure-specific instructions are covered in the Patient Forms and Instructions section.

When to Reach Out to the Practice

Some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are a normal part of nearly every recovery. Signs worth calling about include a fever, unusual or worsening pain, excessive swelling on one side only, or anything that feels different from what was described during the pre-procedure consultation. Follow-up visits after surgery are never a separate charge at this practice, so reaching out with a question is never something to hesitate over for cost reasons alone, at any point.

Recovery Doesn't Mean Doing It Alone

Whatever the procedure, recovery is never something patients navigate without support. Questions get answered, instructions get repeated as many times as needed, and the same team that provided care beforehand stays involved until healing is complete.
