Plastic Surgery and Emotional Health: The Importance of Maintaining Balance

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “less is more.” While this little quip usually applies to things like make-up and dessert, nothing could be more true when it comes to anti-aging procedures and plastic surgery.

For some patients, cosmetic surgery is the golden answer to problems like wrinkles, sagging skin or stubborn excess fat. And although most of these issues can’t be solved just by eating healthy and exercising often (unfortunately), the number of people going under the knife multiple times for multiple issues has increased dramatically over the last few years.

The importance of maintaining balance

Rather than undergoing a Heidi Montag-esque transformation (who had ten procedures done at one time, including a liposuction and a breast enhancement), leading cosmetic surgeons suggest that each candidate should be patient and maintain a delicate balance when it comes to plastic surgery.

Vary your procedures

If you notice some wrinkle lines on your forehead, for example, consider doing Botox one month and nothing for the next two months. Then, after your skin and face have had time to adjust to the injection, consider doing a facial peel or laser treatment to enhance the facial filler. Piling up unnecessary procedures will just make you look and feel like a plastic Barbie doll at the end of the healing process.

And there is a wide variety of procedures to help with all kinds of cosmetic problems. From browlifts in Manhattan to facial fillers and  nose jobs, the number of options for maintaining a healthy anti-aging regimen are endless.

Don’t get a procedure done when you’re feeling depressed

Another contributing factor to the anti-aging and plastic surgery combination is the emotional and mental well-being of each patient. If you feel tired or run-down, don’t immediately run to the nearest doctor and ask for an injection. Instead, consider taking a break with a nap or reading a book and regain some of your mental stability. You’d be surprised how effective some good-quality rest can be for your skin!

At the end of the day, the goal for undergoing nose jobs and facelifts and liposuction is to achieve an enhanced natural beauty. Using a mixture of facial fillers and laser treatments is usually enough for anyone to make those wrinkles and fine lines disappear.
